A pair of Restauration gilt bronze-mounted Sèvres white porcelain vases
“vase fuseau troisième grandeur” – circa 1819-1826
Height: 37 cm. (14 ½ in.) Width base: 9.3 cm. (3 ¾ in.)
Depth base: 9.3 cm. (3 ¾ in.)
With the turner’s incised underglaze mark DL 19-7 for July 1819 and the gilder’s mark H 26 MS for March 1826.
The different marks on these vases indicate just how well-documented the production of the Sèvres Porcelain Factory is at this time. The incised mark indicates that it was potted by the mouleur in July 1819. Subsequently, it was decorated by the gilder “H” in March 1826 before the gilt bronze mounts were added, almost certainly by the bronzier, Pierre-Philippe Thomire, who supplied all of the mounts to Sèvres at this time.
