Comparative Literature
C.Baulez, ‘Le luminaire de la princesse Kinsky’, L’Objet d’Art, no. 247 (May 1991), pp. 86-99.
An identical pair, entirely in gilt bronze, was sold at Sotheby’s Monaco, 3 March 1990, lot 192.
On 22 January 1789, Princesse Kinsky bought a very similar pair from Dominique Daguerre for 528 livres. When they were confiscated by the Revolutionary Government in 1794, the Commission des Arts described them as « une paire de chandeliers composés d’un enfant en bronze moderne portant la bobèche de bronze doré, le pied de même, et socle en marbre blanc enrichi de perles en bronze doré » (a pair of candlesticks composed of a [modern] bronze child holding the gilt bronze bobèche, the foot also gilded, and a white marble base enriched with gilt bronze pearls) (Baulez, op. cit., p. 98).
