Inscribed on the reverses of the views:
“vue du château de choisy-le-roi au temps de louis XV côté de la rivière”
“vue du château de choisy-le-roi au temps de louis XV côté de la cour”
Height of each: 13 cm. (5 in.) Width of each: 15 cm. (6 in.)
Views such as these are often the only evidence of certain châteaux which have been destroyed over the years,
notably that of choisy le roy.

Two pairs of almost identical views of choisy of smaller dimensions by compigné were sold Sotheby’s Monaco,
18 June 1994, lot 137, and christie’s Monaco, 21 June 1998, lot 584. The latter pair is inscribed on the back
with compigné’s name and address.
